Vanessa Dacre has worked at Trident’s Liverpool office for a decade this year. She began her time here as a secretary but retrained whilst at Trident, and was promoted to an Finance and Accounts Administrator.
When did you decide to make the change from admin to accountancy?
I was already helping the accounts team out with chasing fees, bank reconciliations etc., so when the post arose, I was very interested in progressing my career to something completely new.
Why did you do your accountancy training at Trident?
Trident put all their faith in me taking the leap from secretary to accounts, I feel I have a good support network behind me which encouraged me to keep going with the training.
What with your job encompassing so many different aspects, how do you plan your day?
I have a zillion diary notes for each day of which about 75% will get done, emails tend to take precedent depending on their urgency. I love the variety in the accounts department, no two days are the same, no two problems are the same. There is a challenge every single day, always deadlines to meet, i.e. expenses on 15th of the month being one!
You do a very different job to the surveyors. Is there a nice balance/mix in the office?
The office has a great atmosphere. We have the accounts department, Ella the secretary and the surveyors and we all bounce off each other but help each other. I find the fact I came from a secretarial background helps me with the surveyors admin queries but we do have a good laugh whilst working hard!
