Small measures can add up to big improvements in your workplace. Switch to low-energy lamps. Make double-sided copies. Get your company to switch to green cars. Cut business travel with videoconferencing. Recycle printer ink cartridges. Use bike messengers or plan ahead so documents and samples can be sent by Royal Mail. Use recycled paper.

Go a step further and have your company perform a carbon audit, and then develop a concrete action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Suggest that your IT department buy ecolabelled computers. Look around for appliances drawing electricity on stand-by. Computers, printers, coffee-makers and copiers should be turned off completely when not in use.

Whenever possible, distribute internal information in.pdf format instead of printed on paper.

Suggest a programme to certify your company or organisation to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
