Save in your home…

Depending upon who you believe, at least 25% of the UK’s energy usage comes from residential dwellings, and of that, at least half is in space heating and water heating. It is therefore clear that there are huge potential carbon savings to be had right under your nose, or above it…

Why not start with the very obvious one - loft insultation. Adding a 250mm layer of good quality insultation will save significant energy and money. Cavity wall insulation is another cost effective way of reducing thermal loss, and therefore reducing heating demand and fuel usage. Uninsulated cavity walls can lose more heat than any other part of your home - this is estimated to cost some £200 a year in wasted energy for the average home.

Make sure you get expert advice and have the work carried out by a professional, but doing so will be worth it as typical pay-back is estimated as three to five years. There are still grants available depending on your location and circumstances.
