We asked Stewart to give us his low down on how he prepares for MIPIM.
What does your role involve at Trident?
My main role revolves around the running of the Edinburgh office and ensuring that the team are sufficiently busy servicing our clients in the east of Scotland and beyond. I enjoy large acquisition surveys be they large individual properties or coordinating larger portfolio surveys across our network of UK offices. Furthermore, enjoy Project Management of larger projects; both refurbishment of existing buildings and new build. I am keen on the social side too and very much enjoy being key contact for a number of Trident’s clients where we maintain contact and ensure that the services being offered are consistent across the business and that ultimately, our clients are happy.
What are you looking forward to most at MIPIM?
The ability to meet new contacts and also to meet with existing contacts who will be in attendance. MIPIM provides a great platform to meet with people as it is essentially a networking event in the sunshine (hopefully). Due to the nature of the event, I find that people are more open to meeting up therefore, it provides a good opportunity to catch up with people that I’ve not seen for a while as well as meeting with new people and hopefully developing new relationships going forward.
What piece of advice would you give to someone attending MIPIM for the first time?
Relax and enjoy it. I remember being paranoid about making sure I had a full itinerary each day but with hindsight, sometimes the best meetings that I ended up having were unplanned, either bumping into someone on the promenade or meeting someone through another contact. So take each day as it comes and it will all work out!! Also, do not make any ‘early morning’ meetings as it’s likely that they’ll be cancelled shortly beforehand!!
What is the one thing you always pack for MIPIM?
A couple of tubes of Berroca for the morning after!!
