The Green House
04/06/2007
There has been much in the press recently about ‘Zero Carbon’ houses but one Trident client is aiming to go further - and build a ‘Planet Positive’ house which actually contributes to the environment rather than take from it.
The proposal is to construct a new house from an existing timber framed barn, re-using as much as possible from the existing structure.
Other ‘green’ energy measures include, in no particular order, the following:
Solar water heating
Wall, roof and loft insulation that exceeds Building Regulation requirements
Ventilation with heat exchange
Water conservation and rainwater harvesting
A bio-disc septic tank to provide clean water for irrigation
Compost bins for food waste
Three recylcling bins (Local Authority requirement)
Ground source heat pumps
‘Smart’ gas and electricity meters
Micro combined heat and power
Photovoltaic sheets and wind turbines for electricity generation
Triple glazed windows and doors.
We intend to post updates as the project progresses.
