Trident was appointed as Project Manager to deliver the comprehensive refurbishment of this important Grade II Listed Building in Covent Garden, which is thought to have once been used by Thomas Chippendale as part of his furniture workshop. The building had fallen into disrepair and was suffering from Dry Rot and structural damage as well as extensive vandalism to some of the Listed features from squatters.
A complex programme was implemented and a specialist contractor was appointed after negotiation. Repairs, refurbishment and conservation work was carried out and this included new lime based lathe and plaster ceilings and the replacement of a 1960’s flat roof with a new hipped slate roof and leadwork to replicate the original 1800’s construction. The original timber staircase was retained and conserved. There was almost daily contact with the City of Westminster’s Conservation Area/Listed Building team.
Two high quality residential units were created and these included contemporary features such as room control systems and structured cabling, with sate of the art kitchens and bathrooms, and a feature open
roof area to the uppermost floor. The end result is a stunning refurbishment and conservation masterpiece which has been nominated for various Conservation awards and prizes.
